How do comments appear in Word with Track Changes between Workshare 9 and 9.5?

If you are comparing two documents with comments, you can customize Workshare 9 registry entry to only display the modified comments.

Scenario

Workshare 9
  1. Create two Word documents
  2. Add comments in both documents
  3. Compare the documents with Workshare Compare
  4. Save or open Word with Track Changes
  5. Notice that both comments (original & modified) are appearing

  1. Create two Word documents
  2. Add comments in both documents 
  3. Compare the documents with Workshare Compare
  4. Save or open Word with Track Changes
  5. Notice that only the modified comment is appearing

Resolution

In Workshare 9, you can create the below registry keys to display only the modified comments:

For 32-bit OS: 
HIVE: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Workshare\Options\9.00\Compare\CompareAdmin 
String value: ConvertToTrackChangesUsingWord 
Value: True 

For 64-bit OS: 
HIVE: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Workshare\Options\9.00\Compare\CompareAdmin 
String value: ConvertToTrackChangesUsingWord 
Value:True
