A "System.Exception" error is produced when converting a comparison to PDF

Learn how to fix issues related to converting comparison documents to PDF.


Error creating PDF: One or more errors occurred. Details: Exception of type 'System.Exception' was thrown.

Scenario

  1. Run a comparison between two documents.
  2. Under Convert group, click the PDF button and click Create.
  3. Notice an error occurs: Error creating PDF: One or more errors occurred. Details: Exception of type 'System.Exception' was thrown.

Resolution

  1. Upgrade to Professional 9.5.3. Learn how to download the latest version of Workshare.
  2. If you're on Workshare 9 Update 7b or 9.5.2 and you're unable to upgrade, please raise a case to Workshare Support and request patch CR01129786.

Workaround

You often see similar errors thrown (as below) when converting documents to PDF.

Please follow additional the workarounds below to resolve this issue.
  1. Ensure the Workshare PDF Publisher exists under Devices and Printers. If not, reinstall it by running the install.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Workshare\Modules\.
  2. Open the Printer Properties - Ports of the Workshare PDF Publisher, and ensure the port is set to nul: and not configured for an additional port.
  3. Ensure there is a default printer is set under Devices and Printers.
  4. Repair Workshare software under Control Panel - Programs and Features.
