Files not converting

Find out what you can do when the Transact Checklist Generator can't convert your files.

Sometimes the Checklist Generator can’t convert a documents list because it can’t open the file or it can’t process the file containing the list.

Opening the file

The most common reason that the Checklist Generator can’t open a file is because the file is already open on your computer. Check the file isn’t already open and try the conversion process again.

Additionally, if you manually enter the location and name of the file, the Checklist Generator might not be able to open it because the file has been moved, renamed or deleted. It is recommended that you browse for the file rather than enter the file path manually.

Processing the file

In some situations, the documents list is not converted at all or it may be partially converted with mistakes and inconsistencies.

  • Partial conversion: The conversion goes through, but documents are missing and the numbering may be off. The resulting checklist is therefore incomplete. This is normally due to inconsistencies in the formatting (for example, certain list items are not actually in a list format).
  • No conversion: The file fails to convert at all. This is usually because the formatting is in a table format rather than the required text/list format or because the file is a PDF (or other unsupported format). The documents list must be in Microsoft Word DOCX format.  If you follow the recommended method of browsing for the file, you can only select DOCX files.

To avoid processing issues, it’s recommended that a template CP schedule or documents list is used to create your checklist. A sample template is attached to this article.

If you are unable to resolve the issue and your file is still not converting, please contact Transact support at transactsupport@workshare.com or Workshare Customer Support for further help.
