Compare Excel spreadsheets in Workshare Professional 9.5 and below

Users of Workshare 9, Update 5 to Workshare 9.5.x can deploy a tool that provides a basic integration into Microsoft's Spreadsheet Compare functionality (included in Office Professional Plus 2013, Office Professional Plus 2016 and Office 365 ProPlus). 

Note: Professional 9 is now known as Workshare 9.

To enable the integration

Administrators can enable the right-click option for their users by deploying a REG key. The relevant REG keys are in the ZIP file attached to the bottom of this article.

Open the ZIP file and choose the Workshare 9 or Workshare 9.5 folder. To run the integration on a 32-bit machine, deploy 32bitExcelComparison-WS-9.reg/32bitExcelComparison-WS-9.5.reg. To run the integration on a 64-bit machine, deploy 64bitExcelComparison-WS-9.reg/64bitExcelComparison-WS-9.5.reg.
 

Note: Before deploying the the REG key, it will need to be renamed so .txt is removed.

To create a shortcut

A shortcut can also be created by following these steps:

1. Go to the Modules folder
   • For 32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Workshare\Modules
   • For 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Workshare\Modules
2. Right-click Workshare.Excel.Comparer.exe and select Create shortcut.
3. If desired, rename the shortcut.

To run a comparison

Right-click one or two spreadsheets in Windows or your DMS and select Compare via Workshare. A dialog will open where you can browse for a specific document or swap the documents. When you're ready, click Compare. Microsoft's Spreadsheet Comparison will open.



Since Spreadsheet Compare is Microsoft's product, Workshare does not provide support for it.
